Teacher training
From time-to-time we get the chance to conduct our regular Innovations in Pilates teacher training in an exquisite tropical locale. These events are very special and in great demand, with wide-spread interest and attendees hailing from all corners of the world. The combination of education, hands-on practical work, and a small group arrangement allowing for personal attention, all in an environment that is frequently referred to as ‘paradise’, makes for a memorable experience.
Please contact us about when we are next running one of our teacher training courses.
Outline
These courses are run as small groups, usually of no more than a dozen or so participants. The limited time available (typically 6-7 days) and extensive course schedule (approx. 50 stretches with numerous variations) means these events are somewhat more full that our regular retreats. This is important to allow participants to become as fully versed in our Innovations in Pilates approach as possible. Some days are a full day (9am to 5pm) of training, while others are half-days (either morning or afternoon) in order to allow for mental and muscular digestion of what has been learned. Other optional activities that can be arranged during these breaks include: trying your hand at Balinese cooking, a bike ride down from the volcano to local villages containing many artists, snorkelling, or a rice paddy walk. All are great fun. Alternatively, you can simply relax by the lovely pool, or on the beach.
Education
Learning involves doing, feeling, and knowing it in your body, and then developing the additional skill to get someone else to ‘do it’ also. There is however lots of content to cover on these teacher training courses. Key areas covered include:
- PNF and the neurophysiology of various stretching techniques.
- Composing Innovations in Pilates class formats.
- Integrating Innovations in Pilates into clinical / rehab Pilates, including the why, when, and how theory and practice.
- Assessing flexibility, and in particular joint variation and its effect on performance.
- Development / discussion of some other key areas covered in my book, e.g., the relationship of core strength to flexibility.
- Examinations.
- Creative activities in which participants will try to design new reformer stretches.
Preparation
It is essential that all participants are properly prepared prior to commencing an actual course. There is a certain amount of pre-requisite reading material and related presentations that are vital in order to allow your training to be as effective as possible.
- Innovations in Pilates book by Anthony Lett - This is a key reference that ideally should be read prior to attending (price: AUD$70.)
- Innovations in Pilates workbook by Stephanie Ng - This workbook is an invaluable teaching tool, containing numerous lessons, diagrams, and questions that we work from (copies are available from us at AUD$35.)
- Innovations in Pilates presentation material - Select presentation material is made freely available that ideally should be examined prior to attending.
Accommodation
We will advise attendees on the best inexpensive places to stay via correspondence leading up to each course. This is usually a matter of convenience, as it is best if we are all located in relative proximity to where the course is conducted. Participants can however chose their own accommodation, although we do ask that you bear in mind ease of attendance.
Completion
Upon successful completion you will be a qualified Innovations in Pilates teacher, able to teach this form of work immediately to your existing clientele, and to offer Innovations in Pilates classes too. You may even find this work is something your own body welcomes!
Cost
The teaching training course fee is AUD$900, with additional costs for the listed required reading material (AUD$70) and workbook (AUD$35), thus a total of AUD$1005. Accommodation and travel is not included in this figure.
